Saint Theresa lived during a time of great change. Twenty years prior to her birth, Columbus sailed to America, and two years after her birth started the Protestant Reformation. She was a bit of a trouble-maker as a teen and her father sent her to a convent at age 16. She grew to like the convent life and practices a lot of mental prayer. However, the convent had issues with earthly things and was not the pious environment she thought it to be. After experiencing a seizure and falling sick, she fell off from prayer for years. She eventually returned to prayer but found it difficult. She later started a few convents and is known for a new way of prayer that was quickly adopted across Spain.
